Laura, recalling

FOR THAT VERY REASON, now I can't even get close to you.

“Where to now, my lady?”

“Oh, you'll see. I got a surprise for you.”

“You work around here, don't you?”

“Half-time in a clothing store, but it's on the opposite side of this mall. It's great, they give me this employee discount, so I can go crazy when I get my pay. The bad news, I rarely like the clothes in there.”

“No, of course not, you can't wear the same as everybody else. You need to stand out! Like a wolf among the sheep!” Leo raised his voice, startling an old lady passing beside him. Laura chuckled, taking him by the arm.

“That's right. All of this,” she pointed at her body, “needs to be highlighted only with the best. Am I right?”

“True! If there were more women like you in this world, wars would end. Everybody would just stay home, humping like bunnies.”

“If there were more women like me, I'd have to find another way to stand out. And so on, to eternity.” She grinned, letting go of his hand as Leo stopped in front of the cinema, looking at a cardboard ad with the silhouette of a monster firing some kind of laser from its mouth. “Don't tell me you still like this kind of thing.”

“Look, showtime starts in 20 minutes.”

“Oh, my God, no! I've had enough punishment when you used to watch them in the house. Come on, we're almost there.” Laura pulled him by the arm with little effort. Passing hardware stores and fast-food restaurants until they entered the games section. They didn't stop there and continued through an automatic door which let out a cold breeze, revealing an ice skating rink. “Here it is! It's great, isn't it?” Laura smiled widely, but her companion took a few seconds to react.

“Um, yeah, I didn't know about it. Is this place new?”

“It was here when I moved! But I didn't bring you just to look, let's rent some skates.”

“No! You're doing it wrong!” Laura yelled at him as she watched her Shadow throwing him into the ground. 16-year-old Leo squealed and spat on the ground, pushing his glasses back in place before standing up.

“It's not my fault!” Leo leaned on his knees. Sweat was running down his forehead. “Something happened, so he's a little fragile lately.” He glanced at his puppy, which was trying its best to stand up. “Trust me, if we were in full health, you would be crying right now!”

“Maybe, maybe not.” Laura turned right with a distracted attitude, but Leo did not take his eyes off her, walking in the opposite direction. “I suppose you had no trouble dealing with bullies back in your city, but there's something wrong here.” Laura stopped, planting her feet firmly, sending her huge rottweiler to attack. “If you've never had trouble defending yourself, then why do you have a stuffed animal as a protector?” Her words manifested as a bite. The bulldog caught Leo's Shadow with its snout, shaking it like a toy.
